WhatsApp Group Launched to Back Seyi Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Bid
A WhatsApp group has been created to galvanize support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s potential bid for the Nigerian presidency in 2027. The group, which has already attracted 467 members, includes key figures such as Olajide Odidiomo, the House of Representatives member for Ibadan Northwest/Southwest.
The group is also notable for the participation of several of Governor Makinde’s aides, including his personal assistant on political matters, Akeem Azeez, according to reports from SaharaReporters. Additionally, local government officials from across Oyo State are actively involved in the discussions.
Members of the group have been vocal in their endorsement of Makinde, praising his “people-oriented” governance and leadership style. They argue that these qualities make him an ideal candidate for the presidency in 2027.
While Governor Makinde, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has not yet made any official declaration regarding his presidential ambitions, the presence of his close aides and a federal lawmaker in the group suggests growing momentum behind his potential candidacy.
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions between Governor Makinde and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly over the issue of local government autonomy. Makinde recently opposed a Supreme Court ruling favoring local government autonomy, arguing that it does not fully reflect the situation on the ground.
