LP Senatorial Candidate Defects to APC, Promises 1 Million Votes for Tinubu in 2027
Michael Ayuba Auta, the Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Southern Kaduna in the 2023 general elections, has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Auta, who played a significant role in Labour Party’s performance during the previous elections, has pledged to mobilize one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
At his defection ceremony in Fai Ward, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Auta explained that his decision to switch parties was influenced by current political realities and strong support from his constituents. He praised both President Tinubu and Governor Sani for their commitment to fostering peace and inclusivity in the state, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff as a sign of Southern Kaduna’s integration into the national government.
Auta’s defection is seen as a significant political shift, one that is likely to enhance the APC’s influence in Southern Kaduna, a region traditionally known for its political diversity. Reflecting on the progress under the current administration, Auta emphasized that the people of the region now experience greater security and freedom, stating, “This government has given us a sense of belonging. Today, our people can go to their farms and businesses without fear. Unlike the previous administration, President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have not segregated us.”
Auta also pointed to his previous success in rallying grassroots support, reminding his supporters of the 294,000 votes he helped secure for Peter Obi in 2023 despite limited backing from the government. “If I could achieve that as an opposition figure, imagine what we will do in 2027. I guarantee one million votes for President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. The APC no longer has a problem in Southern Kaduna,” he declared.
The defection has been met with strong enthusiasm from APC members. Hon. Dare Isuwa, the Fai Ward Chairman, called it “the happiest day of my life,” expressing confidence that Auta’s influence would further solidify the APC’s position in the region. He added, “He has labored for this party before, and now that he is back, APC will only grow stronger.”
Auta’s business associate, Hon. Elisha Yahaya, criticized the Labour Party for betraying Auta despite his key contributions to building the party in several states. He claimed that Auta’s political departure was prompted by the disloyalty of those he trusted.
