LP Leadership Crisis: Gov. Alex Otti Submits Supreme Court Judgment to INEC
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has submitted Certified True Copies of the Supreme Court judgment on the Labour Party leadership dispute to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The judgment, which spans 48 pages, removed Julius Abure as the national chairman of the party. Despite this, Abure has insisted that the ruling did not dissolve the National Working Committee (NWC) under his leadership and rejected the authority of the Nenadi Esther Usman-led Caretaker Committee.
INEC acknowledged the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that a high-level Labour Party delegation led by Governor Otti visited its headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday to address recent developments in the party. During the meeting, Otti formally presented the court documents and stressed the importance of clarity and mutual understanding between the party and the electoral body regarding its leadership status.
The delegation was received by INEC’s Acting Chairman, Mr. Sam Olumekun, alongside other National Commissioners. Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration and reinforcing democratic values. Mr. Olumekun reaffirmed INEC’s dedication to maintaining neutrality, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law in discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
