Lorry Driver Jailed for 14 Years After Removing C.0.ndom During S£x Without Consent
A lorry driver has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of r@pe for removing a condom during s£x without consent.
Laurence Rafter, 43, from Barnet, north London, used the alias “Jay Lincoln” on a dating app to contact his 32-year-old victim in July 2021. The pair arranged to meet at her home in Islington, where the victim explicitly requested that he wear a condom during s£x. However, Rafter removed it without her knowledge or consent.
As he left, he falsely claimed to be HIV positive, a statement later proven to be untrue. Investigations revealed that Rafter had gone to great lengths to cover his tracks, using a false address, a fake bank statement, and a pre-paid mobile phone to avoid detection. He also falsely claimed to live in a multi-million-pound property, when in reality, he was residing in a flat.
Rafter was found guilty of r@pe by a jury in October and admitted to harassing the victim. In February 2022, he pleaded guilty to malicious communications and threats to disclose a private image in cases involving two other victims. He had also used a fake name to meet these women online before turning threatening toward them.
Following his sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley praised the victim’s courage, stating that the “robust sentence” highlighted the serious danger Rafter posed to women. He described Rafter as a “predatory offender” who exploited social media to manipulate and harm his victims.
Ridley commended the investigative team for their thorough and relentless efforts in identifying Rafter and securing the evidence needed to bring him to justice, ensuring that victims received full support throughout the process.
