Lookman Joins Nigerian UCL History After Quarter-Final Goal vs Barcelona
Ademola Lookman scored in a tightly contested UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night, as Atlético Madrid fell 2–1 to Barcelona. The goal secured his place in Nigerian football history.
The strike makes him the fourth Nigerian player to score in a Champions League quarter-final.
Ademola Lookman follows a short list that began with Obafemi Martins, who scored for Inter Milan against Villarreal in 2006.
Samuel Chukwueze later joined the group in 2022 after finding the net for Villarreal in a tie against Bayern Munich.
The list expanded again in 2023 when Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli against AC Milan.
Lookman now moves into that same bracket and will be targeting a further milestone in the competition. Only a few Nigerian players, including Finidi George, have scored at the semi-final stage of the tournament.
