LASG charges boat driver to court for killing 12 persons
Happiness Elebiju, a boat driver, has been arraigned in court by the Lagos state government over the death of 12 persons onboard his boat in Ilashe waterfront community in July.
Happiness was arraigned on a 10 count charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was alleged to have deliberately exceeded the capacity of the boat, thereby causing the death of the passengers.
Happiness was remanded at a correctional center after pleading not guilty before Justice Josephine Oyefeso of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
The case has been adjourned till Thursday August 27, for the commencement of the trial after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Olayinka Adeyemi asked the court for time to prepare for the trial.
