Lagos Ranks Second in List of Cities Facing Disappearance by 2100

In a recent report by the World Economic Forum, Lagos, the bustling economic hub of Nigeria, has been identified as the second city at risk of disappearing by 2100. Topping the list is Jakarta, Indonesia, facing a rapid sinking rate of 6.7 inches per year attributed to excessive groundwater pumping, as revealed by World of Statistics.

Lagos is experiencing a gradual sinking at a rate of 0.3 inches per year, coupled with the looming threat of coastal erosion. Houston, Texas, USA, follows closely behind with a sinking rate of 0.2 inches per year, compounded by the vulnerability to hurricanes.

The top three in this alarming list also include Jakarta, Indonesia, and Houston, Texas. Other cities grappling with a similar fate include Dhaka, Bangladesh, Venice, Italy, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Bangkok, Thailand, New Orleans, Louisiana, Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Alexandria, Egypt. Miami, Florida, claims the 11th spot on this distressing roster. As these cities grapple with environmental challenges, urgent measures are imperative to address the potential risks and safeguard their future.
