Lagos CP Orders SCID Probe of Pastor Okafor Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct made against Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows widespread public reaction to allegations that surfaced on social media and gained traction over the past weeks.
Pastor Okafor stepped aside from pastoral duties on January 1, 2026, as multiple women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, accused him of sexual impropriety. During a church service last Sunday, the cleric publicly apologised to Ogala, kneeling on the pulpit and admitting to what he described as past mistakes.
The allegations emerged shortly after Okafor’s wedding to a woman identified as Pearl on December 16, 2025. The ceremony was attended by several prominent church leaders.
Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command had said it could not take action because no formal complaint had been filed by any of the alleged victims. The police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, stated on Friday that the command was not aware of any official petition against the pastor.
However, following renewed media enquiries, Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that the commissioner had ordered the SCID to invite Okafor for questioning and also reach out to the alleged victims.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, even though no formal report has been made,” Adebisi said. She added that witnesses would also be summoned to provide statements relevant to the case.
According to her, efforts are underway to identify and contact the alleged victims, including reaching out to online platforms where some of the interviews were published.
The controversy began on December 14, when Ogala posted a series of videos on Instagram, alleging that she had a sexual relationship with the pastor from 2017 to 2025. She claimed he repeatedly promised to marry her before marrying another woman.
Ogala also accused Okafor of sharing her private images and videos without consent, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing emotional and financial harm. She released screenshots, photographs, and videos to support her claims.
The actress further alleged that the pastor offered her $10,000 to withdraw her accusations and blame another cleric. Through her lawyers, she later demanded N1bn in damages, citing threats, intimidation, and alleged unlawful arrest and detention.
As the allegations expanded, other women came forward with claims of sexual misconduct, manipulation, and abuse. Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, accused him of infidelity, deception, and physical assault.
Some members of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries have rejected the allegations. In interviews, they described the claims as attempts to extort money from their pastor.
The police investigation is ongoing.
