Labour Party Reacts to Doyin Okupe’s Resignation

The Labour Party (LP) has clarified that Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential spokesman, has consistently been a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite his announcement of resignation from the Labour Party.

Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed Okupe’s ongoing PDP affiliation in an interview with Daily Trust on Monday. Okupe had cited ideological differences as the reason for his departure from the Labour Party.

Ifoh acknowledged Okupe’s decision to resign and mentioned that while the LP had not received an official resignation letter, they appreciated his contributions during his tenure as the chairman of the DG of the campaign.

“We wish him very well. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be,” stated Ifoh. He emphasized the importance of aligning with one’s ideological stance in the political landscape.

SK Blog previously reported Okupe’s resignation as Peter Obi’s Campaign Director on December 21, 2022, following a conviction for money laundering. Despite the legal challenges, Okupe paid a fine of N13 million after being found guilty by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Labour Party, while acknowledging Okupe’s departure, expressed gratitude for his past contributions and extended best wishes for his future political endeavors.
