Kwara State Demotes Teacher for Assaulting Corps Member
The Kwara State Government has taken disciplinary action against a teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, for mistreating a youth corps member assigned to Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
The incident, which occurred last Thursday, involved the teacher allegedly assaulting and stripping the female corps member.
In an official statement, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, revealed that an investigative panel found Hajia Nike guilty of multiple offenses. These included fighting on duty, use of foul language, insubordination, and disrespect for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform—a symbol of national unity and identity.
As a consequence, the teacher has been demoted by two grade levels, transferred out of the school, and directed to undergo counseling.
“The state government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise,” the statement emphasized. “We deeply regret the teacher’s actions and reassure the management of the NYSC that this behavior does not reflect the values of our state. Such incidents will not be allowed to happen again.
