Kwankwaso Set to Join ADC on Monday
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, is expected to formally defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the African Democratic Congress on Monday.
The planned ceremony will take place in Kano, where Kwankwaso is anticipated to arrive alongside several members of the NNPP. The move signals a significant political shift as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general election.
The development follows a recent visit by Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the ADC and former Osun State governor, to Kwankwaso’s residence in Abuja. Kwankwaso acknowledged the meeting on his social media account but did not disclose details of their discussions.
Speculation about his defection intensified during the recent Kwankwasiyya Eid gathering in Kano. At the event, supporters repeatedly chanted the name of Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and ex-presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Both Kwankwaso and Obi responded briefly to the crowd during the occasion.
Monday’s event is expected to mark Kwankwaso’s formal exit from the NNPP, a party he helped build, and his entry into a new political alignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
