Kogi PDP Suspends Dino Melaye Over Alleged Misconduct

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former gubernatorial candidate Senator Dino Melaye. The suspension, announced on September 12, 2024, by the executive committee of the party in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, follows allegations of anti-party activities.

The party’s disciplinary committee had previously invited Melaye to address these allegations on August 20, 2024. However, Melaye did not attend, leading the party to conclude that his actions demonstrated a gross disrespect for party authority and a violation of the PDP Constitution.

The decision, as outlined in the memo, cites Melaye’s failure to comply with the committee’s summons and his conduct as reasons for his suspension. The memo asserts that Melaye’s behavior has caused embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable.

The disciplinary committee had issued several notices to Melaye, including a final reminder on August 31, 2024, but he did not respond or appear as required.

The party’s statement emphasizes the need for discipline and unity among its members and calls for adherence to the principles of party loyalty and governance.
