Kogi Guber Poll: Melaye Picks Nomination Form, Promises To Revitalize the State
The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye on Thursday in Abuja obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the November governorship election in Kogi state.
Addressing newsmen at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat where he obtained the forms, Melaye said when elected he will focus on reviving the economy of the state and make it less dependent on federal allocations.
He also promised to give the education sector a boost and clear outstanding salaries and pensions owed by the current administration of governor Yahaya Bello.
He said, “We will look at tapping the available of over 200 mineral resources in Kogi. We will look at the environment, agriculture, we will tap into mining.
“We will look at education that is the bedrock of our people that has completely collapsed. Our children have spent more time at home than in school in the last four years.
“Our workers, elders, pensioners are dying for not being able to pay for their daily drugs. Many are hypertensive and diabetic but they cannot service these ailments because government has refused to pay salaries and pensions.
“I will diversify the state economy by investing in tourism and entertainment industry that would make the state a tourist attraction to the world.
“We will be less independent of what is coming from the national. I assure you that Kogi women will see development like never before.’’
The senator lamented the mismanagement of the state’s resources by Bello, adding that he’s running to fix the state.
“I am here to fix Kogi, we will bring back hope and unity among the people of Kogi State. We have passion for the people.
“It’s not my ambition but the ambition of the people. The governor has not completed any single project in the state. We are ready to rebuilt the state” he said.
