Kidnappers Who Abducted Doctor and Killed His Brother Arrested in Hospital After Victim Recognizes Them
Two men suspected of abducting a doctor, Abu Ibrahim, and killing his brother, Abu Tahir, have been arrested at Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area.
The arrests occurred early Sunday after Ibrahim recognized the men while they were at the hospital, where one of the suspects was receiving treatment in the emergency ward. Ibrahim and his brother had been kidnapped in January at Igbira Camp, Auchi, near the military barracks. Local reports indicate that the suspects were recently seen in Auchi accompanied by two individuals dressed in military uniforms.
Community leaders, including Alhaji Rilwanu Bonvist Oshiobugie and the Daudu of Igbe, Chief Yekini Sado, welcomed the arrests as a key step in curbing kidnappings in Auchi. They urged a thorough investigation to uncover the broader network behind recent abductions in Auchi and Edo North. The leaders also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his interventions to strengthen security in the region.
Following the arrests, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation. The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, identified the suspects as Idris Abubakar and Sani Abubakar.
