Kidnapped Anambra Varsity Student, Pastor, and Others Rescued by Security Operatives

Security operatives in Anambra State have successfully rescued five individuals abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The victims, including a Deeper Life Bible Church pastor, Godwin Ani, and a student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Rapuluchukwu Achebe, were reportedly kidnapped in different locations within the state. Three other young men were also among those taken hostage.

The abductors had allegedly marked the victims for execution if their families failed to pay the demanded ransom within a specified period. However, officers from the Igbariam squad of the Anambra Vigilante Group launched an operation, stormed the kidnappers’ camp, overpowered them, and rescued the captives.

Achebe’s return to the university was met with celebration, as fellow students welcomed him with cheers and excitement. Videos circulating on social media show some of the rescued individuals sharing their harrowing experiences.

Reports indicate that Achebe was abducted along the Igbariam-Achalla Road while returning from Umerum to the university, while the other victims were kidnapped in the Achalla area of the same route.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that he had no official information regarding the incident.
