Kano Suspends Doctor Over Alleged Alcohol Use at Work

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has suspended a medical doctor at one of its secondary health facilities following allegations that the doctor reported for duty under the influence of alcohol and engaged in unprofessional conduct.

The incident, which took place at a government-run hospital in the state, was promptly reported to the Board. An initial review indicated potential misconduct, leading to immediate disciplinary action.

Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the Board, authorized the suspension and issued a formal query to the doctor, pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.

In a statement, the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Sulaiman, emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and falls short of the ethical standards expected of medical professionals. The statement noted that healthcare workers bear a critical responsibility for patient safety and are expected to maintain professionalism, discipline, and sound judgment while on duty.

Dr. Nagoda reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to promoting accountability and professionalism across the health sector, stressing that any actions undermining public confidence would attract appropriate sanctions.

The Board confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and assured the public that all measures would be taken in accordance with civil service rules and medical ethics.
