Kano Man Arrested by Hisbah Over Obscene Viral Video With Goat
Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat. The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on TikTok in which the suspect was seen placing his mouth near the animal’s genitalia while instructing an unseen individual to record him.
Yakubu, a resident of Dawakin Kudu local government area, was apprehended on Tuesday after widespread public outrage erupted both online and within his community. In the video, he claimed the act was intended to make him trend on social media. Upon questioning, he admitted to staging the scene for attention, though he denied actually licking the goat and insisted it was his first time engaging in such behavior. He also stated he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident.
Community members strongly condemned the act, with some threatening vigilante justice before a local leader intervened and alerted the Hisbah Board. The Islamic morality enforcement agency has since ordered psychiatric and drug evaluations to assess Yakubu’s mental and physical state.
Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahidden Aminuddeen Abubakar, described the incident as disgraceful and deeply offensive to Islamic values. He criticized the suspect’s pursuit of internet fame, calling it a sign of moral decay and ignorance of religious teachings. The Board reiterated its commitment to preserving the cultural and religious integrity of Kano State and warned against similar acts aimed at gaining attention through indecency.
