Kano Housewife Confesses to Fatally Stabbing Domestic Staff Who Prevented Her Suicide Attempt
In a shocking revelation at the Kano Police headquarters, Hafsat Surajo, a 24-year-old housewife, admitted to fatally stabbing their domestic staff, Nafiu Hafiz. The tragic incident unfolded during a quarrel when Hafiz intervened to prevent Surajo from taking her own life.
Speaking before newsmen, Hafsat explained, “I killed him because he prevented me from killing myself. While he attempted to snatch the knife from my hand, a quarrel ensued between us.” She further described sustaining a cut on her hand during the struggle, which escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, disclosed that the victim’s brother reported the death on December 21, 2023. Upon arriving at the scene in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, injuries consistent with knife stabs were discovered on Hafiz’s lifeless body.

CP Gumel also revealed the arrest of Hafsat’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, and their security guard, Mallam Adam, for allegedly concealing the deceased’s body. The police commissioner emphasized that the suspect, Hafsat Surajo, would face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation. The shocking case highlights the complexity of mental health issues and the tragic consequences that can ensue.
