Kano Hisbah Arrests Couple for Marrying in Restaurant Without Parental Consent
The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a man and his girlfriend for allegedly solemnizing their marriage at a restaurant without parental consent, as required by Islamic teachings.
The wedding reportedly took place at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road, Kano. Hisbah operatives raided the venue on Wednesday night following a tip-off.
Confirming the arrest, Mujahideen Abubakar, the board’s deputy commander general of operations, described the incident as unfortunate. He stated that the ceremony was conducted by the groom’s friends without the couple’s parents’ approval, which is a violation of Islamic marital guidelines.
Abubakar warned that Hisbah would not tolerate actions that go against Shari’a law in the state. He added that the board had launched a manhunt for guests who participated in the ceremony, as many fled when operatives arrived.
“The couple has been arrested, and we are tracking down the groom’s friends who escaped during the raid,” he said.
According to Hisbah, the couple failed to meet the necessary conditions for a valid marriage under Islamic law, making their union illegitimate.
