Kano Government Revokes Lands Allotted by Ganduje Administration

The Kano State government has announced the revocation of lands allotted by the previous administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The affected lands are situated between Kano State Polytechnic and the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies.

The announcement was made by Abduljabbar Umar, Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, who cited Section 28 of the Land Use Act, cap 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as the legal basis for the decision. Governor Abba Yusuf is empowered by this act to take such actions.

The state government has also taken over an alternative site previously issued to the institution at Badume in the Bichi local government area by the former regime.

“When we assumed office on May 29, 2023, His Excellency directed the initiation of development control activities over a lingering piece of land between Kano State Polytechnic and the Aminu School of Remedial Studies,” said Umar.

“Following due process, it was confirmed that the layout implemented over the land was done illegally. By the powers conferred upon the executive governor of Kano State under Section 28 of the Land Use Act, I, Alhaji Abduljabbar M. Umar, hereby notify that the entire site under layout number TPNUPDA/366 has been reinstated to Aminu Kano College of Islamic Studies.”

Umar also announced the revocation and reversion of the alternative site at Badume, Bichi local government area, back to the Kano State government.

The land documents were presented to Deputy Rector Dija Isa of the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, who expressed gratitude for the decision.

“This is a very happy day for us at Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, and for the people of Kano State as a whole,” said Isa. “The revocation of the land had been a setback in the education system, and now that we have our lands back, we are grateful to the Kano State government.”
