Justice Omotosho Bans Nnamdi Kanu’s In-Law from Attending Three Court Proceedings, Gives Reason

The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Favour Kanu, the wife of Prince Fineboy Kanu—Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother—from attending three court proceedings after she was caught live-streaming the trial on her Facebook page. The incident occurred during the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.

Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Tuesday after Favour Kanu admitted to the act and offered an apology. The judge stated that her actions could have warranted a contempt charge but opted instead to restrict her from future attendance for three sittings. Despite a previous warning, including the confiscation of her phone at an earlier hearing for a similar offense, she went ahead to upload court footage online.

The court was told that she is married to Prince Fineboy Kanu, which was confirmed during the proceedings. Kanu’s lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, also apologised on her behalf. Justice Omotosho emphasized the importance of maintaining order and avoiding any disruptions that could delay the judicial process, reaffirming the court’s commitment to delivering justice.
