JUST IN: Vice President Shettima’s US Trip Cancelled Due to Aircraft Issue
Vice President Kashim Shettima’s anticipated trip to the United States has been halted due to technical difficulties with his aircraft. Originally set to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, Shettima was advised to cancel his trip and remain in the country.
As a result, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will now step in to fill the void and attend the prestigious summit on behalf of the Nigerian government.
The unexpected development was communicated through a statement issued by Shettima’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday. Despite the setback, the Vice President is committed to fulfilling his national duties within the borders of Nigeria.
The US-Africa Business Summit, slated to take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, promises to be a gathering of influential political and business figures from both continents. With an agenda focused on fostering economic collaboration and exploring investment prospects, the event aims to strengthen ties between the United States and African nations.
Noteworthy attendees expected at the summit include President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola, President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.
