JUST IN: Trump Redesignates Nigeria as ‘Country of Particular Concern’ Over Christian Genocide Claims
U.S. President Donald Trump has officially redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” following what he described as an existential threat to Christianity in the country.
In a post shared Friday on his Truth Social account, Trump stated that thousands of Christians are being killed and blamed radical Islamists for the violence. He said he has directed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole to investigate the situation and report back to him.
“When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria, something must be done,” Trump wrote. “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”
The move places Nigeria once again on the U.S. list of nations accused of severe violations of religious freedom, a designation that could lead to renewed diplomatic and economic consequences.
The Nigerian government has not yet issued an official response to the development.
