JUST IN: Tinubu Sacks Madueke, Appoints Omotenioye Majekodunmi as New Climate Council DG
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Dr. Nkiruka Madueke from her position as Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), a role she held since June 2024.
The president has appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi, a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer, as the new head of the Council. This was disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Majekodunmi brings over 17 years of experience and previously served as the NCCC’s Financial Adviser, where she played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements.
The appointment reaffirms the Tinubu administration’s commitment to addressing climate change as both an environmental necessity and a driver of economic growth, national security, and social inclusion.
