JUST IN: Tinubu Holds Emergency Talks with Labour Leaders Ahead of Planned Protests
President Bola Tinubu is currently in discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Aso Rock Villa. The high-stakes meeting is poised to play a decisive role in the two-day nationwide protests scheduled to commence tomorrow.
It was learned from reliable sources that the NLC, in response to economic challenges facing Nigerians, issued a warning to the government against any form of attack on its members and protesters during the planned demonstrations on February 27 and 28. The NLC emphasized that any such aggression would result in a complete economic shutdown.
The NLC’s decision to stage the nationwide protest followed a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Nigerian Government concerning the widespread hardship experienced by the populace. Despite calls from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN), urging the NLC to reconsider the protest, the labor organization remains steadfast in its resolve.
