JUST IN: Tinubu Confers GCON on Indian Prime Minister Modi, Declares Him ‘Friend of Nigeria’
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred Nigeria’s second-highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The award ceremony took place on Sunday, November 17, during PM Modi’s state visit to Nigeria.
President Tinubu lauded the Indian leader, referring to him as a “friend of Nigeria,” underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.
The announcement was made via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media. The post stated:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Honours Prime Minister #narendramodi. Confers him with Nigeria’s second highest honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) declares him friend of Nigeria.”
PM Modi’s recognition highlights the growing cooperation between Nigeria and India, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, and cultural exchange.
