JUST IN: Tinubu Awaits Security Briefings, Delays Planned Visits to South Africa and Angola
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delayed his planned trips to Johannesburg and Luanda as he awaits updated security assessments following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi and the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State. The development was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu responded to a request from the Kwara State governor by ordering the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed police authorities to pursue the attackers responsible for the assault on the Christ Apostolic Church congregation.
Tinubu had been scheduled to depart Abuja today for the G20 Summit in South Africa, with a follow-up visit to Angola for the AU-EU Summit. However, growing concern over the recent security incidents prompted him to suspend his travel plans.
The president is now awaiting briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi to commiserate with the community, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara attack. He reaffirmed his instruction to security agencies to intensify efforts toward the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls.
