JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints Ogunjimi as Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a rigorous selection process. His appointment takes effect on March 7, 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His selection was finalized through a competitive process conducted by a committee tasked with ensuring a merit-based appointment. The selection involved three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, all aimed at identifying the most qualified candidate from among Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.

The appointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and competence in public service. “This administration remains dedicated to ensuring that critical positions in the civil service are filled by individuals with proven expertise and integrity,” a government official stated.

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. A seasoned professional, he is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Congratulating Ogunjimi, President Tinubu expressed confidence in his ability to serve with professionalism and integrity. “I urge him to discharge his duties with dedication and a deep sense of responsibility to the Nigerian people,” the president stated.
