JUST IN: Tinubu Announces Three New Executive Commissioners for NUPRC, Redeployment of One
President Bola Tinubu has given the green light to the appointment of three new executive commissioners for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). This development, along with the redeployment of a current executive commissioner, is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement released on Tuesday.
The newly appointed executive commissioners include:
- Bashir Indabawa, who will serve as the Executive Commissioner for the North West, focusing on Exploration and Acreage Management.
- Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu, who has been redeployed as the Executive Commissioner for the Southeast, responsible for Corporate Services and Administration.
- Enorense Amadasu, appointed as the Executive Commissioner for the South-South, with a focus on Development and Production.
- Babajide Fasina, who will assume the role of Executive Commissioner for the South West, overseeing Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning.
Ngelale emphasized that the President’s decision to reshuffle and replace executive commissioners was rooted in a thorough assessment of all factors related to the petroleum sector. The objective is to establish a regulatory framework and culture that not only discourages errant behavior but also encourages diligence and rules-based business practices across the industry.
The nominees’ confirmation by the Nigerian Senate will be a crucial step in further shaping the direction and regulatory environment of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum sector. This move underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering a more robust and accountable industry that will contribute to the nation’s economic growth and stability.
