JUST IN: Supreme Court Reinstates Lawal Dauda as Zamfara State Governor
The Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s ruling that ousted Governor Lawal Dauda of Zamfara State. The judgment, delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim on January 12, 2024, deemed the earlier decision as perverse, citing a lack of evidential foundation.
“The decision of the Court of Appeal has no evidential foundation. The judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered in November is set aside. The order setting aside the appellant’s election is set aside. And the election of the Appellant is upheld,” declared Justice Agim.
This development comes as a significant legal victory for Governor Dauda, solidifying his status as the validly elected leader of Zamfara State. Other members of the Supreme Court panel unanimously consented to the lead judgment, marking the final resolution of the governorship election dispute.
