JUST IN: State Assembly Suspends Four Lawmakers Over Attempt to Impeach Speaker
The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over what it described as an attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh. Those affected are Alfred Berger, who represents Makurdi North, Terna Shimawua of Kian constituency, Cyril Ekong of Obi constituency, and James Umoru of Apa constituency.
The suspension was announced on Friday after the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, moved a motion of urgent importance, accusing the four members of trying to destabilize the Assembly with an unnecessary crisis. The motion was adopted, and the Speaker ordered the Sergeant at Arms to escort the suspended lawmakers out of the chamber.
In a related development, Speaker Dajoh appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Alfred Berger who previously held the role.
