JUST IN: Protesters Lock Works Minister, Dave Umahi, Inside Office Over Allegations of Highhandedness
In a dramatic turn of events at the Housing and Works Ministry, workers have barricaded the office of Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, in protest against alleged highhandedness and disregard for public service rules.
The dispute erupted when Minister Umahi reportedly denied access to workers who arrived late for duty, triggering outrage among union members within the ministry. In response, the union members decided to lock down the ministry, effectively blocking both entry and exit points, confining the minister within his office.
Accusations against Minister Umahi extend beyond tardiness policies. Union representatives claim that he has impeded the work of engineers and directors, further asserting that he has violated public service regulations by appointing external consultants to oversee ministry affairs.
Union official Williams Kudi, in an interview with AIT, lamented the minister’s reluctance to engage with their concerns, alleging that Minister Umahi has consistently refused to grant them an audience.
Efforts to reach the minister and his aides have thus far proven unsuccessful, leaving the situation unresolved and the ministry in a state of lockdown.
