JUST IN: President Tinubu Sets Ground Rules for FEC Meetings, Warns Against Calumny Campaign on Gbajabiamila
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s confirmation of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s duly elected President, Tinubu has wasted no time in setting the ground rules for future Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings. This assertive move came as President Tinubu presided over the latest FEC gathering in the Council Chambers on Monday.
Addressing the attendees, President Tinubu expressed his concern over unauthorized persons gaining access to the Council Chambers within the State House. He emphasized the need to maintain the integrity and security of these vital meetings.
Furthermore, President Tinubu demonstrated his unwavering support for his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajiabiamila, and issued a stern warning to detractors. He implored all parties to cease any campaigns of calumny against Gbajabiamila, emphasizing his trust in Gbajabiamila’s integrity.
Tinubu stated, “First of all, let me reiterate to all of you the fact that a lot of stories are going around about what is happening. I’ve told everyone in this country that I can make mistakes, they’re bound to air them out and correct them. Perfection is that of God Almighty. I have absolute confidence in the integrity of my Chief of Staff. All campaigns of calumny and insinuations should stop; the buck stops here. If I make mistakes, I’m ready to own up to it, and we’re all joining hands to fight corruption and enforce the law along with you.”
During the meeting, the Council also observed a minute of silence in honor of the late Alhaji Adamu Fika, a former FEC member and one-time Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, who passed away at the age of 90.
As of the latest report, the FEC meeting has transitioned into a closed-door session, with prominent figures in attendance, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan; Chief of Staff to the President, Honourable Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and all ministers.
