JUST IN: President Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19, Cancels Speech
President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled speech to a Latino advocacy group in Las Vegas.
UnidosUS President Janet Murguía informed the audience of Biden’s diagnosis after the President, 81, was delayed by 90 minutes. Earlier in the day, Biden had recorded a radio interview with Univision, set to air on Thursday, just before his positive test result was announced.
Despite the positive test, the White House has not yet released an official comment. Before his diagnosis, Biden interacted with locals at a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas, taking several selfies.
This marks the second time Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, having previously contracted the virus in July 2022 and recovered without hospitalization.
The President’s positive test comes amid increasing political pressure following a challenging debate against former President Donald Trump on June 27, where Biden appeared confused and made controversial remarks. He later attributed his debate performance to a cold.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed Biden’s diagnosis, stating that the President is vaccinated, boosted, and experiencing mild symptoms. Biden will self-isolate in Delaware while continuing his presidential duties. Regular updates on his health status will be provided.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s physician, reported that the President exhibited mild respiratory symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19 during routine checks. Biden has begun treatment with Paxlovid and will follow CDC guidelines for isolation.
