JUST IN: Panic in Yola as Explosion Rocks Filling Station Near Airport, Scores Feared Dead
An explosion at an MRS filling station near Yola International Airport in Adamawa State has sparked a massive fire, with several casualties feared. The incident occurred Tuesday evening while a fuel tanker was offloading petrol at the station.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud blast before flames rapidly engulfed the area. Firefighters from the Adamawa State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) are battling to contain the blaze. Several vehicles have been destroyed, and the fire is spreading to nearby areas, raising concerns about further damage.
Authorities have restricted movement to and from the state capital as emergency responders work to bring the situation under control. The affected area is known for having multiple filling stations, increasing the risk of further escalation.
“The level of destruction is monumental,” a witness told reporters, describing the chaos as people fled the scene. Officials have yet to release a statement on the number of casualties or the cause of the explosion.
Efforts to reach authorities for confirmation are ongoing.
