JUST IN: Osun Governor Reduces Workdays for Civil Servants Amid Rising Transportation Costs

In a bid to mitigate the impact of increasing transportation costs, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in the number of workdays for civil servants across the state. This move is part of broader efforts to ease the economic hardships faced by public workers.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the new work schedule will vary based on the employee’s grade level. Civil servants on Grade Level 01 to 10 will now work three days a week, while those on Grade Level 12 to 17 will work four days a week. This policy, however, exempts essential workers, including medical personnel, security officers, political office holders, and accounting officers, who will continue with their regular schedules.

The directive was formalized through a circular from the Office of the Head of Service. Accounting officers in each ministry, department, and agency will determine the specific days their staff will be required to report for duty.

In addition to adjusting workdays, Governor Adeleke has extended the payment of palliatives to public servants for another two months. This is to provide further relief as the state prepares to implement a new minimum wage.

This latest initiative follows several other worker-friendly measures introduced by the Adeleke administration, aimed at improving the welfare of Osun state employees.
