JUST IN: Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics Website Hacked
The official website of Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has been hacked, the agency announced in a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account at 8:32 PM on Wednesday. The NBS warned the public to disregard any messages or reports appearing to come from the website until the issue is resolved.
In the brief statement, the NBS confirmed that its technical team is working to recover the site. It stated, “This is to inform the public that the NBS Website has been hacked and we are working to recover it. Please disregard any message or report posted until the website is fully restored.”
A quick check on the website revealed a “Page Hacked” message. Subsequent attempts to access the site resulted in an “Internal Server Error” message. The error message read, in part: “The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.” It also included instructions to contact the server administrator for further details about the error.
The NBS has not yet disclosed who might be responsible for the breach or the extent of the damage. Efforts are ongoing to secure and restore the website.
