JUST IN: Nigerian Labour Unions Accept N70,000 Minimum Wage Offer, Citing Improved Conditions
Leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced their acceptance of the N70,000 minimum wage approved for Nigerian workers by President Bola Tinubu. The decision comes after intense negotiations and discussions aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.
A statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to assisting the private sector and sub-national entities in meeting the new minimum wage requirement.
Addressing the media after the meeting, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, confirmed the unions’ acceptance of the offer. He emphasized that the decision was influenced by additional incentives provided by President Tinubu, including a pledge to review the wage every three years, a departure from previous arrangements.
Accompanied by Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, and other worker representatives, Ajaero expressed optimism about the future of labour relations under the new wage structure.
