Nigeria recorded their first win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 2-0 triumph over Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium. The match marked the debut of new head coach Eric Chelle, who got off to a strong start as the Super Eagles ended their winless run in the campaign.

 

Victor Osimhen was the hero of the night, netting both goals in the first half to give Nigeria a crucial three points. The Galatasaray forward’s clinical performance ensured the former African champions kept their qualification hopes alive.

 

The victory lifts Nigeria to fourth place in Group C with seven points from five matches. South Africa remains top of the group with 10 points following their 2-0 win over Lesotho. Nigeria will look to build on this momentum when they face Zimbabwe on Monday.
