JUST IN: Nigeria edge Tunisia 3–2 to book knockout place
Nigeria secured qualification for the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–2 win over Tunisia in Group C on Saturday night.
Playing at the Fez Stadium in Morocco, the Super Eagles took early control through Victor Osimhen, who opened the scoring in the first half. Wilfred Ndidi doubled the lead after the break, and Ademola Lookman made it 3–0 midway through the second period.
Tunisia mounted a late comeback. Yassine Talbi pulled one back before Ali Abdi converted an 87th-minute penalty to reduce the deficit to a single goal. Nigeria held on through seven minutes of added time to claim all three points.
The result lifts Nigeria to six points from two matches, following their 2–1 win over Tanzania in their group opener. Tunisia remain on three points after previously defeating Uganda 3–1.
Nigeria will face Uganda in their final group match on December 30 with qualification already secured. Tunisia must beat Tanzania on the same day to keep their tournament hopes alive.
Record champions Egypt earlier became the first team to reach the last 16 after a 1–0 victory over South Africa.
