JUST IN: Mosque Collapse in Lagos, Many Feared Dead
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Papa Ajao area of Mushin, Lagos, where a mosque collapsed during Zuhr prayer, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. The exact number of those affected remains unknown at this time.
Eyewitnesses and multiple videos reveal the somber scene as bodies are being recovered from the rubble. Many individuals are still believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
As of now, no official statements have been released by relevant agencies regarding the cause or the exact toll of the disaster.
Building collapses are, unfortunately, not uncommon in Lagos State, often leading to significant loss of life and property. In 2022 alone, Nigeria saw at least 61 building collapses, with Lagos State accounting for 20 of these incidents, according to the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG).
