JUST IN: Military Helicopter Crashes, Two Crew Members Confirmed Dead
An Mi-28 military helicopter crashed in a remote area of southwestern Russia, resulting in the deaths of its crew, according to reports from two Russian news agencies on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the Kaluga region, approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the Ukrainian border. The TASS news agency, citing a source within the defense ministry, confirmed the crash and the fatalities. Preliminary information suggests that a technical malfunction was the cause of the crash, as reported by the Interfax news agency.
Local officials provided further details to TASS, confirming the helicopter went down in a forested area, making immediate rescue efforts challenging.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the malfunction and ensuring all necessary protocols are followed in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
