JUST IN: Kwara Shuts Schools in Five LGAs Amid Rising Security Concerns
The Kwara State government has announced the closure of schools in five local government areas of the Kwara South senatorial district due to rising security concerns. Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the state commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, stated that the move is part of a proactive strategy to ensure a safer environment for students.
The closure affects schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero local government areas and takes effect immediately. Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized that the action aims to prevent kidnappers from targeting schoolchildren amid ongoing security operations.
He also noted that boarding schools in Irepodun are included in the closure, as they could be vulnerable to criminal activities while security forces intensify their efforts. The government indicated that schools will remain closed until authorities provide clearance for normal activities to resume.
