JUST IN: JAMB Begins Rescheduling UTME for Nearly 380,000 Affected Candidates in South-East, Lagos

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates whose initial exams were marred by technical issues and other irregularities. The rescheduling process kicked off on Thursday morning following an announcement by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

Prof. Oloyede acknowledged that significant errors impacted the conduct of the 2025 UTME, particularly affecting 206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 others in 92 centres under the Owerri zone, which includes the five states of the South-East. He confirmed that affected candidates would begin receiving text messages notifying them of their new exam dates and venues, starting Thursday.

“I apologise, I take full responsibility,” Oloyede stated, addressing concerns over the credibility of this year’s examination and the frustrations of affected students.

One of the affected candidates has already received a rescheduled exam slip, which indicates a new test date of Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12 noon. The location for the exam is a centre in the Igando community, within Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

More updates will follow as the rescheduling continues.
