JUST IN: “He Remains with EFCC” – Aide Confirms El-Rufai Will Spend Night in EFCC Custody
Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, will spend the night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, has confirmed.
El-Rufai appeared at the anti-graft agency on Monday morning and has been responding to questions from investigators. Adekeye tweeted at 10:07 p.m.:
> “UPDATE: Malam Nasir @elrufai today honoured the invitation extended to him by the EFCC. He had a frank and fruitful interaction with the EFCC officials, whom his counsel noted were entirely professional in their approach and conduct. He remains with the EFCC.”
According to sources cited by NAN, EFCC detectives questioned El-Rufai over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as Kaduna State governor from 2015 to 2023. One source added that it was too early to say how long the questioning would continue, while another suggested court arraignment could be a possibility.
Separately, the Department of State Services has filed charges against El-Rufai for allegedly bugging the phone of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser. Over the weekend on ARISE Television, El-Rufai claimed that Ribadu’s phone was tapped and that instructions for his arrest were overheard.
