JUST IN: Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Remanded in Kuje Prison as Court Delays Bail Decision
Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has issued an order for the remand of the ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in Kuje prison. This decision is to be in effect until November 22, pending the court’s ruling on Emefiele’s application for bail.
The application for bail was presented by Emefiele’s lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, while Rotimi Oyedepo vehemently opposed it on behalf of the Federal Government.
Following the arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu determined that a bench ruling could not be promptly delivered due to the multitude of authorities referenced by the opposing parties. The Judge expressed the need for some time to thoroughly review the cited authorities and examine the exhibits provided by Emefiele in support of his bail request.
As of now, the Kuje prison authorities have been contacted to arrange for transportation to convey Emefiele to the prison facility.
