JUST IN: FG Suspends Planned Prayer Sessions for Food Security After Public Backlash

 

The Federal Government has suspended its planned three-day prayer and fasting programme aimed at supporting food security efforts in Nigeria, following public criticism. The initiative, proposed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, was intended as a spiritual intervention titled “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development.”

 

The sessions were scheduled to take place at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on June 16, 23, and 30. A leaked internal circular dated June 11, signed by the ministry’s Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., had invited directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and value chain desk officers to fast and attend the gatherings.

 

The circular described the event as a “solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and supporting the Government’s effort to achieve food security.”

 

However, a subsequent internal memo from the same official confirmed the suspension of the prayer programme until further notice. No official reason has been given for the decision.
