JUST IN: Federal High Court Halts Reinstatement of Emir Sanusi

A Federal High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Liman, has issued an ex-parte order preventing the Kano State Government from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The order, granted on Thursday night despite Justice Liman being in the United States, comes in response to a case filed by Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi, a traditional title holder known as the Sarkin Dawaki Babba.

The court’s decision allows the Plaintiff/Applicant to issue and serve their Concurrent Originating Motion and other related court processes on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Abuja, extending beyond the court’s local jurisdiction.

Justice Liman’s order also mandates all parties to maintain the status quo as it was before the passage and assent of the disputed bill until the hearing of the Fundamental Rights application, scheduled for June 3, 2024.

In an effort to ensure peace and security in Kano State, the court has issued an interim injunction preventing the respondents from enforcing or implementing the Kano State Emirate Law Council (Repeal) Law.

The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2024, for further hearing on the Fundamental Rights application.
