JUST IN: EFCC Raids Enugu Radio Station, Detains Presenters, Seizes Equipment Worth Millions
Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Urban 94.5FM, a prominent radio station in Enugu State, disrupting a live broadcast on Monday evening. The incident, which occurred around 6 PM, led to the detention of several presenters and the seizure of equipment valued in the millions, causing widespread concern.
According to reports, broadcaster Favour Ekoh was abruptly removed from a live program, bringing the show to an immediate halt. This unexpected intervention has raised alarm over press freedom and the circumstances surrounding the EFCC’s actions.
Urban Radio’s management released a statement late Monday, expressing shock at the raid and noting that the EFCC has yet to provide any official explanation for the detainment of their staff and the confiscation of their equipment.
Efforts to obtain a response from the EFCC have so far been unsuccessful.
