JUST IN: Edo Assembly Suspends Three Lawmakers Amid Impeachment Allegations
The Edo State House of Assembly has suspended three lawmakers over accusations of orchestrating an impeachment plot against the speaker and other key officials.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku made the announcement during the resumption of plenary in Benin, citing Donald Okogbe (PDP Akoko-Edo II), Bright Iyamu (PDP-Orhionmwon South), and Adeh Isibor (PDP-Esan North East I) as individuals allegedly involved in a scheme fueled by external influences to disrupt proceedings and destabilize the leadership of the assembly.
The declaration sparked immediate dissent among the lawmakers, leading to a tumultuous scene within the parliament as the suspended members contested their removal.
In response, opposing legislators challenged the speaker’s authority to unilaterally suspend members, insisting on a vote to determine the validity of the action.
Amid the chaos, Speaker Agbebaku abruptly adjourned the session, leaving the matter unresolved and casting a shadow over the future proceedings of the assembly.
